Becky Jane Fox on Empowering SQL Founders: Fast-Tracking Success and Impact.

Business mentor and consultant Becky Fox is passionate about assisting purpose-driven entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses while making a positive impact on their communities and the environment.

Her career journey began at 22, when she started her first business – she was hit with burnout and overwhelm, which was a steep learning curve that helped her develop systems to transform it. She was able to free up time for the things she loves most such as travelling, surfing and giving back, while also bringing in a consistent income. Today, Becky emphasises the importance of time, money, focus and personal accountability, valuing moral support from like-minded individuals.

SQL: Describe your job and how long have you been supporting the Queenstown Lakes district?

Becky: I help entrepreneurs buy back their time and put systems in place to allow them to scale and make more profit, and make more impact overall. That’s what I’m passionate about – people who want to have a positive impact on the communities and the environment around them.

SQL: How did you get involved with Startup Queenstown Lakes?

Becky: I’m in Dunedin, so I do a lot of things with the Startup Dunedin community. That’s how I got connected with the Startup Queenstown community – I got involved last year at their Startup Weekend. I’m really passionate about other people who want to make an impact, so I like to try and do my part as well.

SQL: How has supporting SQL programs and workshops impacted your role?

Becky: I did the Startup weekend last year and I came and did a session for the Booster Course – a workshop for them. It’s just fun, it’s a really nice way to give back. I think they’re great for the people that participate, and it’s really awesome meeting everybody that’s taking part.

SQL: What impact do you think you have supporting SQL and its founders?

Becky: Just hopefully helping them fast track – either fast track to getting success, or fast track so they can identify areas of failure as well so that they’re not wasting time or money on things. I think both are really valuable because time is really important. If you’re trying to start up a business while doing so many other things, it could potentially take up a lot of time and a lot of money. Also, just the personal accountability and moral support that you get from being surrounded by like-minded people.

My passion is helping those who are trying to make a positive impact beyond profits. I think it’s a really good thing that all founders should have, because business is hard and it just gets harder.

SQL: How would you describe SQL in one word?

Energetic.
